Orchestra

The Symphonica d’Italia is composed of musicians who have come together as an autonomous association and of guest players who come from among some of the greatest European and U.S. orchestras.  The artistic harmony, enthusiasm, professionalism, the process of joint-decision making and most of all, the joy of playing together are the bedrocks of the orchestra.
The Symphonica d’Italia works to connect with their audience in such a way as to transmit the joy, passion and love that inspires them to play music.

Maestro Lorin Maazel, who for many years has collaborated with the orchestra’s musicians, said:

When I was called on to conduct this youthful and well-known group of soloists, I felt the compelling urge to respond to the challenge. I’m happy I accepted. The players were able to express all their artistic worth in an orchestra so well-knit and with music so absorbing as to bring down the house. May they prosper and their music reap fruits from their endeavour”.

The collaboration between the orchestra members and Maestro Maazel began in June of 2006, in Moscow, on occasion of the Festival of the World’s Symphony Orchestras.
In a short time the formation has become the focus of numerous concerts in Europe, solidifying, virtually from the moment of its inception, its reputation as an international orchestra. In January of 2007 the orchestra and Lorin Maazel would begin an artistic journey that would take them all over the world: United States, South America, Israel, Morocco, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, Russia, Hungary, Turkey.

Among noteworthy concerts are: the performances at the Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura di Roma on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the “Treaty of Rome” (May 7th 2007) and the opening of the Pauline Year/Bimillenium (June 30th 2008) , the “Concert for Europe” in Brussels, at the “Hemicycle Hall” of the European Parliament (December 5th 2007)and the concert at the Auditorium di Zaragoza in Spain for Expo 2008 (August 25th 2008).

The orchestra, along with Maestro Maazel, has inaugurated its new activities as Symphonica d’Italia with a concert at the Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma, on occasion of the international musical tribute “September Concert” (September 11th 2009), and the participation at Festival International de musique de Besançon , France (September 13th 2009).

On November 15th, 2009 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma, under the direction of Maestro Lorin Maazel, the Symphonica d’Italia together with the Coro dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia will take center stage in a concert event commemorating Itzhak Rabin. The event, entitled “Lament to Yitzahk Rabin: a man of peace”, will see a performance of Dov Seltzer’s Requiem ‘In memory of Yitzahk’ for symphonic orchestra, mixed choir, children’s choir and soloists.

In 2010 the Orchestra is planning an important tour in Ukraine (with stops in Odessa, Lvov and Kiev) and other concerts in Spain, France, Czech Republic, Balkans, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

2011 will mark the 150 year anniversary of the unification of Italy (Centocinquantenario dell’Unità d’Italia) and for the occasion the orchestra, together with its partners, plans to present significant cultural and musical events.
